The denomination of origin Calatayud is located to the southwest of the province of Zaragoza,in the natural region of the Valley of the river Ebro. The climate of the area is characterized by large differences between the day and the night during the maturation of the grape.
As for the types soils that exist in the denomination of origin there are a great heterogeneity, settling most of the vineyards on stony, limestone slate soils. They are loose and poor soils in nutrients, presenting a remarkable permeability.For all the constraints listed above make the Calatayud D.O. as a clear example to produce estate wines and wines of "terroir". About the White grapes, the most important are Macabeo.
